What do you want from life?

What do you want?

Learning anything is a lot easier if you have a very specific reason why you want to learn it.

It makes sense to consider the following broad areas of your life to highlight any that you feel you could improve. There are many Nero Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques, general Self Improvement tips and Life Coaching guides you can use to drill-down into these areas, but knowing where improvements can be made to your life is a great start!

Health

Without health you don’t have much. When health is an issue, nothing else really matters until you’ve got your health issues fixed. This can be anything from losing weight, getting physically stronger, reducing blood pressure or quitting a bad habit.

Financial Health

This is the level of your debt, the relationship between your income and your spending, or the level of your savings and investments. It’s a hard truth that very few people have adequate savings and the vast majority simply hope they will have enough to retire – some day! Financial health can also mean a simple understanding of financial concepts and what products and services are available.

Career Choice

Even if you have healthy finances, that’s not much of a consolidation if you hate the thought of going to work every day. Ideally, you want job you enjoy, one that maximises your skills, provides genuine recognition from your peers and pays well.

Social Life

Suppose you had a great job, decent finances, but your only friend was your cat. That would most definitely suck. Genuine friends are great resources. Having the confidence and skills to go out and meet people is also a worthy goal to have.

Family Relationships

We’ll keep this separate from romantic relationships. Having family members that you trust, trust you, and you know you can count on each other is a very necessary resource. Being alone or excluded can be a very debilitating position to be in.

Romantic Relationships

Having a partner with which you share emotional and sexual intimacy goes a long way to fill in the blanks when some of these other things are missing. If you have a healthy body, and a healthy relationship, for many people that’s good enough to call it done. Everything else can be just icing on the cake. But without a special someone, even with all this other stuff life can seem empty at times.

Getting Social & Giving Back

This can be anything from environmental activism, joining a sports/hobby club or spending time helping out at the old folks centre. How you spend your free time when all the other stuff is taken care of can be what’s missing in an otherwise very satisfying life.

Action

Choose any one of these, and turn a vague wish into a solid goal that excites you when you think about it. Something that will improve your future, and that you know is something that requires your action to change.
